INFARED COAGULATION PROCEDURES

IRC Basics

Infrared coagulation therapy, which is also known as IRC, is a procedure used to treat small and medium-sized hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are swelling in the rectum or anal area that can protrude through the anus upon straining. Many factors, such as age or heredity, can contribute to the appearance of hemorrhoids in an individual. During the procedure, a device that creates an intense beam of infrared light is used by Mid-America Gastro-Intestinal Consultants to create scar tissue, which cuts off blood supply to the hemorrhoid, causing it to diminish.

The hemorrhoid symptoms can include:

  • Bleeding during or after bowel movements
  • Protrusion through the anus during bowel movements
  • Anal itching
  • Sensitive lumps
  • Pain or discomfort

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, let the team at Mid-America Gastro-Intestinal Consultants help alleviate your pain with their IRC procedure. Call their Kansas City office today at (816) 561-2000 and schedule your appointment!
