Sandra A. Hoover, APRN, BC

Sandy completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Kansas and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She has ten years of nursing experience and has worked the last six years in the specialty field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Sandy has a special interest in the treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C.

Sandy has three daughters and enjoys riding motorcycles and reading in her spare time.

The Role of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner in Gastroenterology/Hepatology

An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a registered nurse with advanced education and training who is licensed to practice medicine in collaboration with physicians as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). Our Nurse Practitioner has a master’s degree in nursing and is certified in the clinical area of gastroenterology and hepatology. As a health care provider, she delivers quality patient care through her experience as a consultant, implementing treatment plans with an emphasis on patient education.

The role of the APRN includes:

  • Performing a detailed history and physical assessment
  • Diagnose and establish treatment plan
  • Prescribe/ manage medication therapy, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab studies
  • Manages follow-up and coordinate care
  • Consults and collaborates with our physicians and other health care professionals
  • Promotes patient education
